It also fits perfectly with the Lovecraftian monsters you encounter throughout the game.ĭespite all its cool upsides, the lack of color admittedly contributes to a lack of visual variety. It reinforces the sense of encroaching darkness with small glimpses at a chance for hope. This mostly monochrome aesthetic fits the game’s theme perfectly. It harkens back to the visual style of films like Sin City and Schindler’s List. Most of it is in black and white, except for the few tinges of red from the daughters’ scarves and their abilities. Many people will likely be drawn into the game’s unique art style.
Along with Othercide‘s own unique story and aesthetic, this fusion of ideas creates a fresh take on the turn-based strategy genre. It also shares a similar dark tone of Bloodborne and Dark Souls. It takes inspiration from XCOM’s isometric turn-based combat. It borrows from roguelites like Slay the Spire with its expectation of death and several playthroughs. Othercide is a fusion of ideas from other genres. In this gloomy tactical turn-based role-playing game, you control, create, and sacrifice your daughters in order to survive against nightmarish creatures and to save your child. Thankfully, The Maid’s interrupts can also get interrupted (so get your Soulsingers’ Intercepting Rounds to safeguard teammates). The Maid boss fight in Othercide relies heavily on careful planning due to her reaction skills that interrupt your attacks. She can continuously rupture the Maid’s armor and deal a ton of damage. That’s when the Mother spawns the Scythedancer Daughter. The good news is that your squad of four will have a reinforcement once you bring the Maid below 10,000 health. Lost Love (reaction) – interrupt any boost/buff and deal 1,200+ damage.Vow of Obedience (reaction) – gain a bit of initiative anytime a Daughter does something.As for Deception, it hits multiple tiles (seen below), but there are some safe spots near her.Īt 50% health, the Maid enters phase three: Likewise, take note of Forbidden Love which could kill Soulsingers easily.
